Jayaranjan (J) Anthonypillai was born in Sri Lanka, India and was raised in Toronto. He is a graduate from the Western University of Health Sciences where he earned a Master’s Degrees in Msc Chemical Ecology and Biology. J heads up IPG’s life science advisory services group and offers IPG’s life science clients an excellent operational perspective and track record when they are considering their ideal laboratory real estate options.
J brings his extensive background in scientific research and technology validation, and has worked in clinical, clean-tech, biotech, and agri-tech sectors. Leveraging his experience and background in biology and lipid chemistry, he has developed novel technologies for overcoming product development, process development, and engineering challenges. He has consistently provided excellence in client services, product to market logistics, and most laboratory functional areas. J is passionate about driving continuous improvement in daily operations for the life science companies he works with. J has more than twenty-five years of experience in laboratory operations and process excellence across many laboratory clean manufacturing and research and development industries.
In California, J has been an active figure in the Bay Area biotech startup scene, and is the founder of Berkeley Biolabs, a biotech incubator where he helped mentor over 30 companies. He is also the co-founder of The Berkeley Program which equips high school and middle school students to pursue entrepreneurship, and FOCUS Academy which serves as a ‘Soft Landing’ for international biotech startups in the Bay Area at IPG’s FOCUS Innovation Studio. As an entrepreneur and mentor for several startups, J’s emphasis is often on product to market fit as the main driver of research and development effort and strategy.
When J is not hard at work in the lab, he can be caught travelling internationally on client assignments or enjoying his three beautiful kids, likely camping somewhere in the Sierra mountains.
